Acadia National Park has been a central part of our lives since we started coming to Maine in the early 19802, and we enthusiastically supported the Friends of Acadia (FOA) mission of "preserving, protecting, and promoting stewardship of the outstanding natural beauty, ecological vitality, and distinctive cultural resources of Acadia National Park and surrounding communities for the inspiration and enjoyment of current and future generations." Wishing to contribute to FOA, but not having the ability to make large monetary donations, we conceived of a project to visit the seventeen stone bridges designed for the Acadia National Parks carriage-road system in the order they were built and design, hook and annually contribute a “bridge rug” to the Friends of Acadia Annual Benefit Auction. The project began in the winter of 2006, when we hiked to Cobblestone Bridge. The project was completed in 2021 with the Triad-Day Mountain Bridge rug.
